Like all of you, my life has been touched all too often by the ravages of cancer. I have lost family members and a close friend to cancer as well as coming very close to losing a young niece. My situations, I'm sure, are similar to many of the volunteers, riders and organizers associated with the Ride, so I won't dwell on them. I'm just glad to be able to work towards doing something that will help someone who faces a similar challenge now or in the future.
This is my third year being involved with the Tour for Kids and, now, with the National Ride. It’s the purest form of fund raising I've seen and the dedication of the riders over the huge numbers of kilometers travelled always keeps me smiling. Many of the people I have had the pleasure, and in some cases, the honor, to meet through the Tour are totally committed to the cause and there commitment is infectious.
Over the years I've been involved in stage racing and stage events in Ontario, Quebec, Montana, Costa Rica and France as a civilian, a police officer and as a member of the Canadian Forces Reserves. I've been a competitor as well as a crew member and I know what it feels like on both sides of event. I'm looking forward to the common objective of moving the Tour across the country. It’s a lot of miles, hard work and little sleep; the goal is worth it and, in my experience, the fellowship is as well.
